Inaugural lecture by Rachel Armstrong [The Experimental Architecture Group], Professor of Experimental Architecture at the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape, Newcastle University, and one of the artists of the Cyborg garden. The exhibition ‘ECO-VISIONARIES Art for a planet in a state of emergency’ opens next Thursday. ECO-VISIONARIES is curated by Pedro Gadanho, Mariana Pestana and the Matadero Madrid team. We have had the honor of participating with the exhibition design. ECO- VISIONARIES collects the work of more than forty artists and architects who respond to the urgency of the environmental crisis threatening our planet. This exhibition is parallel to the Cyborg Garden and the Mutant Institute of Environmental Narratives. For a year, we have been working on two very interesting processes, together with a team of artists, engineers, architects and technicians from different fields. On the one hand, in the creation of a Cyborg Garden for Matadero Madrid. A research project to test replicable strategies of intervention in the public space, for the adaptation to climate change. On the other hand, in the start-up of the Mutant Institute of Environmental Narratives, a framework to rethink the relationships between culture and nature, from fiction.
