FUTURE TERRITORIES

We will take part in the seminar “Future Territories: Imaginaries of a Landscape to Come” on October 2 and 3, 2026, at the Cerezales Foundation. Within the planetary murmur lies the “not-yet-present”—a space-time yet to be designed, containing all its futures already virtually inscribed. In that “not-yet-present,” the planetary parliament offers us an image of coexistence built upon veins of rare earths and multiple intelligences. With the help of Cristina Ramos, Rosemary Lee, Uriel Fogué, María PTQK, Abelardo Gil-Founier, Laura Tabarés, and the last capercaillies, we delve into this paradoxical context. Their work, alongside that of numerous thinkers, agrees on highlighting the responsibility of creative practices when it comes to experimenting with tools, narratives, conceptualizations, and technologies with which to not only analyze but also subvert, shape, design, and imagine cultural territories and landscapes. In its latest issue, No. 286, AV takes a look at a selection of projects from elii [architecture firm]’s work in past years. The projects are organized from the urban scale to the microbial scale, including the building scale. This project dossier includes, from largest to smallest scale: the MADxMAD project (in collaboration with Maral Kekejian and the Veranos de la Villa team), the Infinito Delicias buildings (in collaboration with Husos Arquitecturas) and Save the Children, two houses, Neko and House of Would, two renovations Didomestic and Oki apartments, and the installation Still Remains (in collaboration with Orkan Telhan). "The mushrooms Anna Tsing studies demonstrate that life can thrive in the cracks of a world in crisis, and it is in a similar way that the practice is seen by Uriel Fogué, Eva Gil, and Carlos Palacios, whose Madrid studio imagines ecosystems more than containers, and in the face of the climate emergency it seeks compliance with what they call ‘ecological contracts’: that every construction detail have a minimal footprint and acknowledge the existence of more-than-human realities.
