COSMOTECHNIQUES (I)

On Tuesdays October 14, 21, and 28, we will be teaching the seminar “COSMOTECHNIQUES” in the Master's Degree in Advanced Architectural Projects - MPAA#17, in the LAB#01 Practical Criticism track. Introduction: In its latest reports, the United Nations Environment Program calls for a “rapid transformation of societies” to address the climate crisis. Others point to architecture as one of the basic fields of action where a possible ecological collapse is being disputed. What can we do? Inaction is not an option. Architecture must shift from its usual positions. Based on the analysis of spatial experiences, this seminar will explore a series of shifts that reposition architectural practice within an ecological and cosmo-technical framework. In particular, we will focus on the following three moves: 1. From territory to intestines. Microbial cosmo-techniques 2. From construction detail to ecological contract. Next Wednesday, October 1, we will participate in the round table discussion to be held after the inaugural lecture of the second edition of the Master's Degree in Industrialization, Prototyping, and Architectural Design, given by architect José Toral (Peris+Toral) entitled “Designing with Systems.” We will discuss the relevance of industrialization in our discipline and in the training of architects in the 21st century. The speaker José Toral will participate in the round table, along with Pablo Saiz (architect at Woodea, a company collaborating in the event) and Uriel Fogué (architect at elii, and professor at MIPPA 24/25). On June 5, 2025, we will give a lecture entitled “Humid Ecological Contracts” as part of the “Rhizome of Water” seminar organized by TANAT. What role does water play in our construction of spaces and fictions? Through lectures, creative exercises and discussion, the workshop proposes an investigation on the relationship between water and the domestic and urban environment. It takes as references visionary architectures of the twentieth century, machines and inventions of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and ancient water technologies. It seeks to imagine new relationships between architecture, city, body, machine and water, seeking to expand the limits of concrete spaces. The imaginaries open and create conversations around our time. We will not talk about big acts, or massive solutions, but about discursive imaginaries.
