067 · didomestic Every house is a teather ABSTRACT*Arquia Próxima Award - Interior Design and Refurbishment, 2014 Project for the complete refurbishment of an attic in downtown Madrid The scope of the project covers from the development of a customised functional proposal for a user that is turning a new leaf to the rehabilitation of the structure, the insulation, the facilities and the modernisation of the existing construction systems. The selected approach removes all obstacles from the floor to provide the greatest possible flexibility. Two basic elements are used: firstly, the central core, comprising the staircase, some shelves and the larder. The core is at the centre of the main space under the mansard roof. It connects the access floor and the space under the roof and allows the natural lighting coming through the roof into the living room. Secondly, there are two side strips for the functional elements (kitchen, bathroom, storage space and domestic appliances). This basic arrangement is complemented by two strategies that provide flexibility to the domestic spaces. Firstly, the moving panels that are integrated into the core and run along guide rails. These panels can be used to create different arrangements, such as adding an […]

076 · susaloon Every house is a theatre Refurbishment of a minimal space, Madrid   ABSTRACT* Selected work to be part of the Spanish Pavillion in the 15th International Architecture of Venize, 2016, winner of the Golden Lion, 2016 Every house is a theatre How can you get a multitude of spaces out of only one? Susaloon is a minimal intervention in a domestic space to convert Susana’s home into a flexible and transformable space. The project development comprises three simple strategies. The first one is an acupuncture operation to adapt the configuration of the space to the needs of its inhabitant, relocating certain household items to optimise the distribution and everyday use. The second strategy involves opening up certain divisions to extend some spaces such as the living room. There will thus be more natural lighting and wonderful views of the Madrid horizon for the inhabitable spaces. The third strategy is the integration of a series of fold-down and sliding devices that are used to divide the spaces, deploy a work space, a large dining table, a bed for a surprise guest, a spacious area to practice shiatsu or to reorganise the storage space. As a result, the main space […]

083 · ALMA DE RIMEL & THE GLAMMATICS Believe or not... Maria Jerez - Alma de Rimel ] The Glammatics - PNEU 2016   ABSTRACTPortable theatrical set for María Jerez The Glammatics are posed on a golden reflective surface onstage, accompanying Alma de Rimel and deploys this in its ‘spikey’ forms and its surfaces of mirror, velvet, leopard, fake marble, fluorescent tube, red leather, plastic, glitter, golden lacquer, air and pink steel. The commission arose in 2015 after the invitation of the Commissioner and Art Critic Iván López Munuera, for the 'The Dark Side of the Party' inauguration, within the festival C+Arquitectos. Since then, The Glammatics has been touring with 'Alma the Rimel’ in their concerts. For more information about , see: http://almaderimel.com/    PROYECTO1. Unmentionable. The idea of the piece is to activate a concert from unknown. The Glammatics absorb 'Alma the Rimel’s’ aesthetics and deploys it in some “difficult to name” elements. 2. Glam. A glam concert is not only listened to, it is also looked at and touched. Glam is, in itself, a synaesthesial proposal. 3. Synaesthesia. Objects that sound, but they do not sound to what they should sound, instruments that do not do what they […]

077 · biombombastic Many houses in one ABSTRACT* COAM Award 2016. Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de Madrid, 2016 Complete refurbishment of a flat in the centre of Madrid The purpose of this project is to renew an old flat in the centre of Madrid to turn it into a transformable space. The project hinges around two complementary strategies. Firstly, an open space is configured, and the whole programme is grouped and arranged around an L-shaped band on two sides. This band includes the access to the household, the outer façade windows, a folding bed, the storage space, a complete kitchen, a fold-down auxiliary table, access to the bathroom and the washing machine. It optimises the spatial distribution and compacts all the functions so that everyday activities can benefit from as much space as possible, all the while adapting to the geometry of the apartment. Secondly, a fitted screen on one of the sides can be deployed from the wall to create different domestic arrangements, by closing the bedroom, the kitchen or dividing the house into two. Wooden rails serve to construct the whole. They are the attachment points for the screen and establish the lighting of the spaces. The screen […]

090 · Carriage of Señorlobo Disco on wheels ABSTRACT* First Award COAM -ex aequo- (Official Professional Association of Architects of Madrid), 2017 * Finalist FAD Award. 2017 Carriage of the Madrid Council, parade of the Three Kings 2016, Madrid The carriage of Señorlobo makes its way through the streets. It guides the Three Kings with the help of the attending public, to celebrate their arrival to the city of Madrid on such a special day. Señorlobo floats through the city on a structure of thin rings of coloured lights. Its top is crowned by a technical space that houses the sound equipment, various lights and a smoke machine. Behind the rings, at the bottom, are the subwoofers. The assembly is supported on a towed platform and forms a sort of disco on wheels that carries the party and builds up the festive atmosphere before the highlight of the parade. The carriage of Señorlobo interacts with the public, which has small mirrors to reflect the light from the carriage and guide the Three Kings as they twinkle. The volume of this carriage is reminiscent of kids’ cartoons. The carriage forms an optical device that plays with the citizens’ perception and encourages them […]

072 · potlatch! Gift-exchanging ceremony ABSTRACTEphemeral architecture for the temporary residency for artists (El Ranchito 2014) in Bay 16.1 of Matadero Madrid. The project for El Ranchito 2014 revolves around an ancient gift-exchanging ceremony that was held by the tribes of the American Pacific coast and was known as potlatch.   El Ranchito 2014 will kick off with a potlatch. Before work starts, all the artists will receive a gift containing all the necessary tools to settle into Bay 16 of the Matadero in Madrid. This gift, large and light and mounted on wheels, is easy to transport, so artists can explore the bay to choose the right spot for them for the coming weeks. Once they have found that spot, they can deploy their gift and use the wrapping to house their workspace in whichever way suits their fancy and needs. The Potlatch! System revolves around four main elements that make up the gift package: First, the gift wrapping. It is formed by six unfurlable greenhouses, of 1.50 x 0.75 x 2.05 m each. Their bases are hinged so that different spatial configurations can be arranged, from an unbroken wall of greenhouses to isolated partitions or zigzagging strips. […]

069 · jf kit house GZ Getting in shape at home! ABSTRACTPrototype for an experimental house, Guangdong Museum of Art, Guangzhou, China Exhibition. 09.08 > 09.10.2013 This is the second version of the JF•Kit House prototype. Prior to this, it had been built in the CIVA (Centre International pour la Ville, l'Architecture et le Paysage) in Brussels and it has now been submitted to the 2013 Asian Art Curators' Forum in Guangzhou, China. The JF•Kit House is an experimental house where the inhabitants cover most of their power supply needs by means of physical workouts. The project takes a political scenario, in this case sustainability, to the extreme to evaluate how domestic spaces and their rituals, as well as the bodies of citizens, are transformed in an ‘off the grid’ context (disconnected from infrastructure networks). There are four levels to the JF•Kit House GZ project: - Urban level. Light and pre-industrialised architecture that can swiftly colonise a dispersed city’s fabric to increase its density. - Architectural level. Exploring the transformation that architecture undergoes when new power management technologies and infrastructures are integrated and the focus shifts from supply networks to local generation. - Financial scale. Financing the house with […]

057 · INSIDER The Electric Community Two Apartments. Historic District. Zaragoza ABSTRACT* Selected work for the Arquia Próxima Award Interior Design and Refurbishment. Arquia Foundation, Caja de Arquitectos, 2012 Two Apartments. Historic District. Zaragoza The project is constituted by two complete houses, joined by a common area. It also allows to eliminate the division between the two studios and connect them as a single, conventional house. In order to gain the largest amount of space for the houses and minimize the execution costs, the activity is centred on the central area where the kitchens, bathrooms, storage, access and distribution elements are found. In this way, the main space of each house is freed and the area of intervention is reduced. A laundry area common to both houses is also placed in the common area. There are two elements that make this house an active space adapted to the user and which allow him to alter the organization of domestic actions: On one hand, the functional spaces relate with the living areas by means of a series of blinds. On the other, the central area is lifted 60 cm from the ground. Both situations allow the user two configure different […]

036 · Tastes, Collections and Videotapes Between fiction and backstage ABSTRACT*  Selected work for the Arquia Próxima Award Interior Design and Refurbishment. Arquia Foundation, Caja de Arquitectos, 2010 Exhibition at the Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo, Móstoles, Madrid The “TASTES, COLLECTIONS AND VIDEO TAPES” exhibition marks a new phase of the Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo. The exhibition shows 22 video works belonging to the Contemporary Art Collection of the Madrid Autonomous Region and to some of the most relevant private collections in Madrid specializing in this format. The Project was conditioned by two basic elements: One the one hand, the museum halls are placed around a central court, closed in one of its corners by a curtain-wall, which makes developing a system to guarantee ideal spatial, acoustic and lighting conditions of the exhibition a must. On the other hand, the project makes the most of the wall divisions used for previous exhibitions to optimize costs and the execution period. This way, the exhibition is organised around a body which infiltrates de museum and generates an independent environment where the different halls are located and the ideal conditions for the showing of each piece are created. The visit around the […]
